The Marantz SA-11S1 received universal praise as a superb SACD player with very good Redbook performance. It was extremely well done and rated Class A in Stereophile.

The new SA11S2 ups the anti with a far better, entirely Marantz designed, transport that was made for the $7000.00 SA7S1. It is one of the 3 best transports that we are aware of.

The SA11S2 uses two High Accuracy Seiko NPC Monaural SM5866A5 Super Audio D/A Converters and a High Precision Quartz Clock with Linear Voltage Regulation. The S2 also has the updated SA7S1 operating software.

The Stock SA11S2 is 75-80% as good as the SA7S1 for $3000.00 less. Our modified player upgrades well over 100 parts and outperforms the SA7S1 for a good bit less money. We ring all the performance possible out of it and do it at a very reasonable price. The modified player is a big step up over the stock unit.

The mod was designed by Chris Johnson, the founder and former president of Sonic Frontiers.

The following details our Level-2 modifications for the Marantz SA-11Ss CD/SACD Player:
a) Twenty-Seven BLACK-GATE STD, FK, N and PK-grade power supply and output coupling capacitors are added to the circuit

b) Two REL-CAP Teflon TFT film and foil coupling caps are added to “bypass” the main Black Gate output caps

c) Twelve 1% POLYSTYRENE film and foil capacitors in are added in the analog filter staged)

d) Fifty-Two RIKEN OHM ½ and one watt, 1%, carbon comp. resistors (gold-plated leads) are upgraded in the signal path

e) Twelve TELEFUNKEN SF4007 “Ultra-Fast Soft-Recovery” Diodes are used to replace/re-build the bridge rectifiers. These are used in the sonically critical power supply positions.

f) One pair of premium “machined” DH LABS “direct gold plated over copper body” Teflon insulated RCA female jacks are used on the outputs. These replace the cheap stamped stock modules.

g) We Install four “large” EAR brand Sorbothane isolation feet, with new mounting hardware

h) Two sheets of SOUNDCOAT chassis damping material are cut & applied where applicable, to control chassis resonances

i) One sheet of ERS suppression cloth is added to reduce EMI/RFI

j) Four DH LABS 99.999% pure solid-core long-grained silver output signal wires, w/foamed Teflon tape wrap dielectric, are added to the output jacks.

k) One ACME AUDIO LABS silver-plated cryogenically-treated IEC power inlet replaces the cheap connector of the stock player

l) WBT high silver content (4%) solder used throughout

m) 9 hours labor

Sonic improvement of the Level-2 mod:

The modified unit is now better in virtually all performance areas. It is a tad warmer and more tube-like. Dynamics are greatly improved. Mid-bass slam & low bass extension are both better. It has better detail across the board. Imaging specificity is also improved as is front to back depth. The modified player outperforms the SA7S1 for dramatically less.
