For a limited time we are offering our Level-4 PS Audio Digital Link III for only $1290.00. Save $450.00 off our regular price of $1740.00.
The latest email I received from a customer said:"I connected the modified DAC to my 2ch rig just to see what a the hub-bub was about regarding external DACs. I thought the Wolfson WM8740 in the Arcam Cd36 was doing its job...until I bypassed it with your Cullen modded unit. Never before has a single piece of gear made such an immediate improvement." Kenny
The Level-4 mod makes the coaxial input work like it is balanced for even better low level resolution and dynamics.
This is a great match with the WADIA 170 iTransport that we are now selling. Call for package pricing.
We are now selling the Cullen Circuits modified PS Audio Digital Link III D to A Converter. The modified DAC is superb and is covered by the PS Audio 3-year factory warranty.
We ship these modified DAC's worldwide in 220/240 volts as well.
The latest 10Audio.com review says:
"I would rather listen to music with the even handed musical performance of the DLIII than suffer through the various particular strengths, and attendant weaknesses, of many phonograph cartridges previously reviewed on 10 Audio."
"The PS Audio Digital Link III with Cullen Circuits Stage 4 modification allows the sound from CDs to be more enjoyable than I have ever experienced. Well done, Rick!

The latest 6moons review sums up with:
"The Cullen Circuits Stage Three mod builds upon the fine-sounding stock DL III and takes it up to a level that I'd frankly expect to pay $3,000-$4,000 for. It provided an ideal mix of detail and musicality at a very attractive price. If you own a DL III, call the folks at Cullen and pimp out your DAC. If not, I highly recommend purchasing the Stage Three modded DL III or even the stock version if funds are tight. You can upgrade later."

The PS Audio Digital Link DAC III is a tremendous value at its $1000 retail price. It has received a superb review in the Absolute Sound March 2007 issue. Barry Willis said that the Link DAC "offers an almost frightening level of detail, 3-dimensionality and bass impact".
The Link DAC III is a fully balanced design that uses a Burr Brown 1798 chip set, one of the best DAC chips made. It has 24 bit/192K upsampling. It also has a USB input to run right from your computer. Our mod adds lots of premium parts and turns it into a world class performer at a very reasonable price.
The modification is done by Rick Cullen at Cullen Circuits.
Cullen is the California OEM company that made the DAC's until recently. They are now made in China to keep costs down. Rick knows more about these DAC's than anyone. The Level-3 Cullen mod is the most comprehensive out there and clearly the best that we have heard.
The modification consists of the following:
• Replace 28 resistors in the audio signal path with Dale Rn55d copper leaded parts.
• Replace 11 electrolytic capacitors with audio grade Muse caps.
• Replace 8 FET's in the DAC’s output stage with hand matched low noise parts.
• Install ERS EMI/RFI Suppression cloth.
• Install WBT NexGen 210cu RCA jacks.
• Install clock modification board that replaces the 2 stock clocks with new Cullen designed clocks with ultra low jitter. This is done to both the clock and CODEC.
Performance enhancements are as follows:
-It is warmer with a more liquid midrange. The little glare of the stock unit is now gone with a more liquid presentation.
-The unit is Quieter. Backgrounds are BLACKER, thus resolving even more low level Detail with better ambiance retrieval.
-Bass slam and extension are dramatically improved with fuller weight and authority. The DAC now sounds more like big buck units that sell an the $3k to $5k range
-Transparency is improved and you can now look farther into the soundstage as Stage width and depth are both improved.
The modified DAC is Superb as well as being an exceptional value.

Here are a few quotes from some Cullen customers:
“It was as if a blanket of hash was removed or a blanket that was dulling the fronts of notes, the body of the notes and the tail. Having detail can be a curse if the parts do not fit together. Just because a system can reveal information, does not mean that the parts equal the whole. This was of concern Because this experience was taking me to listening areas that I had not ever experienced, I had to be very careful to put my thoughts together. Because this hash (I will call it digital hash, because I do not know what else to call it) was removed, the stuff that holds music together – and that is what happens BETWEEN the notes – was also strengthened.
My perception is that the presentation is more solid, images are denser, and that there is more integrity to the note and its environment. It certainly is faster, with more of the slam and slap that happens in real music.
Yes, it the bottom is solid, but that is not the important part of that. It is that the notes have their own integrity and that I can recognize what that is instead of it being loud (or whatever) with some recognition.
So, the sonic window is bigger and much clearer letting me hear the quality of the note (instrument or voice) with a new appreciation of what is there to begin with.”

“I am most enamored with your invention and the absolute amazing sound of this one with your mods! I have never ever before heard the air, space, decay or three dimensionality from red book CDs. The tone and timbre of the instruments along with the different human voice qualities borders on spooky it is so lifelike! As a long time devotee to both the Ultralink and Ultralink II, I remember when you repaired my Ultralink II your mention that I should hear the DIII...I don't know about a stock one, but this Stage III one is absolutely fantastic! Just for reference, the rest of my system is: Aerial 20T's, Synergistic Absolute Reference interconnects and speaker cables, Aesthetix Rhea Phono and Calypso Preamp, VPI TNT6/Sumiko celebration, Sony SCD 777ES, Straightwire Reference InfoLink Digital w/RCA's, and Sierra Audio Denali Monoblocks. I am hearing so much in my CDs that previously I heard only in the vinyl copies and with absolutely NO noise floor? Truly an accomplishment! Great Job!”
Thanks again, Mike
“I have had my Stage-III modified DAC for a week and a half, using my existing PS power cord, XLR’s, and the GCC. I would echo the comments Rick made in his first post (paragraphs 3 & 4):
tighter Bass (and more of it), more shimmer in the cymbals, vocals seemed more alive (and in fact, I felt a few times as if I could see the expression on the singer’s face as the lyric was uttered).
One of the very first things I noticed was that it seemed the music, or more accurately, the vocals, slowed down in time – yet still of course, the 4 minute track for example was still 4 minutes. It was odd. I assume this was the critical listening and that my brain was at a higher sampling rate since there was really more to hear.
The stock unit, which I still have, is great. However, it could not seem to materially help an old Janis Ian cd that would always screech out the music. The Modded unit not only made it listenable, it made it enjoyable. Thus “I learned that truth at”, well, not 17.
Am also very happy with the performance of both units via USB and uncompressed downloads. The modded unit went further, cleaning up a horrible Youtube stream that I sometimes use as a reference.”
