Sold an MMF-5.1 and took it in trade 1 day later for the MMF-7.1. This unit is perfect and will come with the full warranty as a demo. It was never even played. He opened the box and then decided to go for the 7.1.
The MMF-5.1 is a great value and includes the $300.00 Goldring GL2200 moving magnet Cartridge. This is the new 5.1 version that upgrades the classic MMF-5. The following upgrades over the MMF-5 are:
- The alloy tonearm from the MMF-7, This is a one pc alloy arm with internal wire drawn from high purity copper. The counterweight’s center of gravity is level with the stylus tip & is decoupled from the arm and acts as a resonance damper
- A step up Dynamically balanced alloy platter is better than the older glass platter.
- Gold-plated RCA phono sockets
- Higher grade phono cable
- New vibration damping adjustable foot
- Significantly upgraded alloy tonearm
- Upgraded Dust cover
The MMF-5.1 turntable is a 2-speed belt driven audiophile turntable employing the unique dual-plinth construction originated by Music Hall. The distinctive design isolates the critical Sound reproducing components; platter, main bearing, tone arm, and cartridge on the top Platform from the motor, switch, wiring, and feet which are mounted on the bottom platform. Six viso-elastic cones separate the two platforms and provide vibration damping. The MMF-5.1 comes complete with cartridge mounted.
-Unique dual-plinth construction
-Low noise fully manual belt-drive design
-Separately isolated asynchronous motor w/2-speed (33/45rpm) pulley
-Goldring 2200 moving magnet phono cartridge ($300 value) with replaceable fine line Gyger II diamond stylus. The cartridge supplied is properly aligned and mounted.
-Precision stainless steel main bearing sheathed in Teflon for noise-free fluid operation
-Metal screw-on Record clamp
-Compliant feet and round spirit level
-High-Gloss Piano Black Lacquer finish
-High quality gold RCA connectors
It is clearly a far better table than the older MMF-5.

The following is the conclusion from the Soundstage review on the older MMF-5:
The Music Hall MMF-5 offers fine levels of detail and quietness. It has warm, deep, slightly woolly bass, remarkably honest midrange and fast, articulate treble performance that errs, ever so slightly, to the brighter side of natural. But at a retail price of $630, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to conclude that the MMF-5 represents one hell of a value. Thought the MMF-2 was and is a good-sounding "budget" turntable, the MMF-5 is a downright steal and allows you to forget you are playing in the minors. You owe it to yourself to go the extra $200 -- the improvement in performance over the MMF-2 is impossible not to justify.
